British icons and all time indie-rock favourites The Kooks are making a much-awaited return with their brand new album Never/Know. Landing on 9th May via Virgin Music Group, Never/Know will mark a landmark return to the bands trademark anthems, as well as their timeless classic sounds.
Marking the album announcement with a throwback Indie Club Night at Notting Hill Arts Club fans and members of the media enjoyed an intimate set of mostly new material, a truly heartfelt declaration for their fans.
News of Never/Know coincides with the release of groovy and effortlessly infectious single Never Know alongside the brand new lyric video. This banger sets the tone for the album and showcases the band’s reputation as one of the genres strongest songwriters. Delivering a universal tone of innocence, the chorus’ mantra captures the excitement of a newly discovered romance.
Talking on the new track, frontman and songwriter Luke Pritchard said “It’s a love song about a cute meet with someone unpredictable. I like the idea of it being played in a convertible on a road trip somewhere ridiculous. Because you really do never know.”
Born out of a mission to reconnect with The Kooks original creative drive, this 11- track offering will absolutely excite fans both old and new. Talking about the album, Pritchard said: “Its not about going back to the first album’s sound but to the roots of our influences and asking, ‘what is the identity of this band?’”
Well known for an indie sound which defined the 2000s, the band has navigated an ever-evolving musical landscape and continued to connect to new audiences, as well as their original fan bases. With over 7 million monthly listeners on Spotify today, it’s clear the quality of the music has never slipped and continues to make an impact across the board.
Starting out as a solo endeavour by Pritchard who began creating a series of demos before inviting the rest of the band to join the studio, Never/Know was born out of passion for the music. With Luke Pritchard and guitarist Hugh Harris rekindling the collaborative spirit that defined the band’s early, most spontaneous work, Harris shared: “At the heart of it, we both want the same thing, and that’s very powerful.”
