Though grateful for the surprise releases of Folklore and Evermore, fans of Taylor Swift have often mourned the loss of the Lover ‘era’ cut short by the pandemic. When Covid-19 restrictions caused Swift to cancel the Loverfest shows and subsequently move on to writing Folklore with coworkers Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, fans realised they may never see some of the songs from the album performed live.
But Swift clearly has her favourites when it comes to her albums and Lover seems like one of them, as her merch shop has introduced brand new items based on Lover and its aesthetic in time for Valentine’s Day next month.
The collection includes pyjamas, sweatshirts, necklaces, posters, scrunchies and even novelty Cruel Summer fuzzy dice? The pink aesthetic of the Lover album has always lent itself to adorable merch designs and obviously the romantic holiday, so this is no different. Furthermore, the existence of a Lover blanket on the store will probably prove a fan favourite to the lucky ones among us who have a collection of Taylor Swift album blankets at home.
Taylor has also been making headlines overnight for snapping back at Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn who, in a LA times article, accused Swift of not “writing her own songs”. Any fan knows that Swift’s songwriting is arguably the most vital part of her career and is often praised for her talent by many other artists. Therefore, naturally Albarn’s quote has been met with criticism from both Swift’s fans and musical friends online – each defending her and pointing out how she has built her entire career on an open and self written discography.
Swift’s own response, which she further replied sarcastically with “PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering” has received over half a million likes.
So, whether you’re a Lover fan or have a Swiftie to buy a gift for this Valentine’s Day, I think we all deserve some Lover themed pyjamas or a tie dye hoodie when we take a break from defending Taylor Swift’s talent and reputation online.
