To celebrate Record Store Day’s 15th annual celebration, Taylor Swift has been named as the very first Global Record Store Day Ambassador.
Record Store Day 2022 takes place on Saturday 23rd April and Taylor will be marking the occasion with a special release. Some fans on social media are speculating that the purple and red font used on the promotional graphic indicates that her release will involve Fearless (Taylor’s Version). We will have to wait a little while longer to find out what the release will be. The list of other official releases for the event will also be revealed closer to the event.
Speaking about being named this year’s Ambassador, Taylor said: “I’m very proud to be this year’s Ambassador for Record Store Day. The places where we go to browse and explore and discover music new and old have always been sacred to me. Record stores are so important because they help to perpetuate and foster music-loving as a passion.”
RSD co-founder Carrie Colliton explains “We’re pretty picky about the people we invite to ‘wear the sash’, and we always want to make sure those Ambassadors genuinely love record stores and are creative about ways to celebrate them. But mostly it’s a title we want people to have fun with, and we know that our RSD 2022 Ambassador loves having fun, loves music, and loves record stores. For our 15th Record Store Day, and for our first Global Ambassador, we’re teaming up with a woman who does all that and just happens to be one of the biggest artists on the planet.”
Taylor has been a huge advocate of record stores throughout her career, always ensuring her releases can be found physically on CD and Vinyl in independently-owned record stores. Her releases are continuously on record store sales charts around the world.
During the pandemic when stores were forced to close and struggled to survive, Taylor took her support one step further by encouraging fans to find autographed CDs in stores around the US. She also generously donated to a store she knows well, Grimey’s New and Pre-loved Music in Nashville, to help support staff during this difficult time.
