Multi-Platinum and GRAMMY®-winning Imagine Dragons have released their latest track, Wrecked. Alongside releasing the single, the band have also announced their forthcoming fifth studio album, Mercury – Act 1, will come out September 3rd 2021.

Wrecked delivers a powerful and raw outpouring of grief, loss, and moving forward. Lead vocalist Dan Reynolds began writing the song shortly after loosing his sister-in-law, Alisha Durtschi Reynolds to cancer and the emotion felt will send shivers down your spine.

Talking about the song, Reynolds confessed: “This song was my way of dealing with it all, as music has always been my refuge. No longer being a man of fervent faith, I can only hope that she hears it somewhere in a place where she is healed and no longer in pain. This song is my wish for an eternity with those that I love.”

Continuing to affectionately speak of Alisha, Reynolds continued, “She was the brightest light. A beacon of joy and strength for everyone she met. Her sudden passing has shaken me in ways that I still am unable to express. I was with her and my brother when she passed, and it was the first time in my life that I had witnessed death in this way. It sealed into my mind the fragility of life and finality of this all. I’ve watched my brother face something that no one should have to. But I’ve also seen his faith bring him hope in a future with her. I can only hope for the same,”

This new track gives a perfect glimpse into what fans can expect to come from the album. Sharing their first new music since 2018’s Origins album, Billboard marked recent releases Follow You and Cutthroat show Imagine Dragons making a true impact with their return.

Teaming up with esteemed producer Rick Rubin to create their fifth album, which title draws inspiration from the word ‘mercurial’, you can expect metaphorically charged lyrics to be abandoned and instead, an embracement of emotional extremities. Mercury – Act 1 is available for pre-order now.
