Years & Years are back with new single Starstruck, which is the first release since their second album, 2018’s Palo Santo. It’s also the first new material since the announcement that Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen will be stepping down from being active members, with Y&Y continuing as a solo project for singer Olly Alexander. Goldsworthy will still play live with the band, while Türkmen will focus on writing and producing.
Starstruck is about human connection, and Alexander says the UK’s lockdown had an influence on the song’s creation. “Since we’ve all had to stop, all I’ve wanted to do is go out and dance. So I’ve been putting all that pent up energy into the music.”

Alexander hopes that fans will connect with Starstruck’s upbeat message. “Like most of us I’ve spent the past year at home, and I wanted to create something super positive and fun for people (and myself) to bop along too. Whatever we’re doing or wherever we are in life, I think we all deserve three minutes of interstellar ecstasy.”
