Leeds lo-fi dream pop band Bad Idea have just released their brand new single Happy. Following on from their last release, Winter, this new track is all about positivity. The dreamy and calming release has a contrasting feel to the upbeat message of the song. With a dreamy guitar intro, this melody will pull you in to a totally calm trance.

Exploring a rise of positive thoughts that can come after a depressive slump, Bad Idea have created a soothing bop to make you feel okay again with a truly cathartic release. Vocalist Sarah Sefton expressed: “Although the tone of the song seems to contrast with its emotions, Happy is actually a song about feeling good. I can imagine that a lot of people, as well as ourselves have been stuck in a rut this past year or so – so the appearance of positive thoughts during all of this stillness and contemplation come as a shock. Songwriting is what we’ve  been left with this year, and Happy encapsulates that sense of meditation and catharsis that we’ve been unable to unleash onstage.”

In their first year together, Bad Idea made their mark on the DIY scene. Spending the time intensely gigging and building their audience, the group made an impact with their blissful guitar hooks and enchantment that pulls you in. The four piece have strongly laid their ground as one of the rising acts in Leeds right now.

Formed on a drunken night out dancing to Madonna’s Like A Prayer the band name comes from the idea that it’s not always great to start a project with someone you’re romantically involved with. The four piece started with ex-friends and current partners, Sarah Sefton and Daniel Johnson in 2016, with Charlie Peacock and Liam Lambert joining on bass and guitar in 2019. Giving the band a much fuller sound; the foursome turned to mixing their creative backgrounds of music production and composition with creative writing and fine art.

During the first national lockdown in the UK, Bad idea released their debut EP I Just Want To Go Home with a perfect sense of irony in the timing of the launch. With their DIY approach across the board including marketing, publicity, and gigging, Bad Idea have gained almost 15,000 streams across Spotify and Bandcamp. This dreamy indie group are definitely ones to keep on the radar!
