Playing to a sold-out audience at the O2 Institute, Toronto-based indie-pop outfit Dizzy took to the stage as the opener for Oh Wonder’s Wear Your Crown 2020 World Tour Part 1. Opening track Stars and Moons set the tone for their hazy-sounding blend of indie and anthemic pop tracks, including Swim, Pretty Thing and new release Sunflower. Vocalist Katie Munshaw shared her thanks for Oh Wonder being a big influence on Dizzy. Expect more from them in the future!

Bursting onto the stage with opening track Better Now, Josephine and Anthony exuberated Saturday night party energy. Quickly followed by tracks Drive and I Wish I Never Met You got the crowd moving. What was instantly obvious was how much stronger Oh Wonder’s tracks translate to live performance: their records do not do their songs and performance justice.

Accompanied by two musicians, the band set-up was simple to make way for the heady visuals of lights and displays used throughout the show – not what you’d expect for a club show, but more attune to a big arena performance. Is this a sign of things to come?

Peppered between tracks was on-stage banter between Josephine and Anthony who paid respect to International Women’s Day and encouraged the females in the crowd to take the leap into music writing and performance. Josephine pushed it one further and congratulated herself on squeezing the topic of periods into the conversation, as Anthony looked baffled! At times, their on-stage chat seemed a little contrived as Josephine took the lead on engaging the audience and Anthony took a backseat, but the audience responded eagerly, regardless, especially when Oh Wonder shared details of previous relationships!

Dressed in her three-leopard print finest, Josephine shared Oh Wonder had come to party in Birmingham and they definitely did! With their constant stream of fan favourite songs and dance moves, between playing instruments, Oh Wonder had everyone singing and dancing with them throughout the entire set.

Things slowed down for more chilled-out songs Overgrown and Livewire where Oh Wonder got to show their softer side on this penultimate UK date before going off to hit up Europe and the US.

Oh Wonder ended the set with Lose It before an encore of tracks All We Do and Without You, and ended the show by playing new song Hallelujah from February’s Wear Your Crown album release.

Josephine and Anthony’s previous musical endeavours means that they are professionals ‘til the end in giving their audience polished song after song filled with sheer energy and enthusiasm for their music. Oh Wonder is definitely a duo to see play live on the Wear Your Crown 2020 World Tour, if you can still grab tickets, before they completely sell out.  It’s not a show to be missed!

Oh Wonder will be back in the UK at the end of the year for more shows.
