Australian singer-songwriter MAXO has already had been out on his own headline tour, played across North America and even visited the UK at the end of last year. We caught up with him to find out more about his latest single All My Love, his influences and what he has planned for 2020.
How did you become music become a big thing in your life?
I guess I have always been intrigued by music, even at a young age, the way it makes you feel and how it can change your mood, it’s so fascinating. Then by learning the guitar, learning to sing and writing my own music, it just took it to a whole new level.
We see you’ve just become a Semi-Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, congrats! How does being considered for awards such as this differ to hearing from fans that love and relate to your songs?
Thanks guys! I have now become a finalist and it feels absolutely AMAZING! Although, as it does feel great receiving recognition from the industry, hearing from my fans and having them share how my music has affected them definitely takes the cake.
Since you began in music you’ve toured across Australia, North America and even spent a bit of time in the UK in 2019 performing at BBC Introducing Live, how does performing across the world differ?
It doesn’t really differ too much performing across the world as I’ll be playing the same songs and creating the same atmosphere, but It is exhilarating playing on new stages to new fans who I’ve never crossed paths with. Although, coming back to play a hometown show is always fun!
While in London you also filmed a video for your cover of Coldplay’s Christmas lights, are you a big Coldplay fan? Who else are your big influences?
Huge Fan. Love the atmosphere they create. Other big influences of mine include The Script, One Republic, The Maine and You Me At Six.
You’ve recently released your new single All My Love can you tell us the story behind it?
All My Love basically came about as I’ve been touring overseas the last couple years and it’s about the compromise that comes with life and love. You can be working hard chasing your dreams (one of the massive loves in my life) but, in turn, may find yourself missing out on other loves, such as family and friends.
You shot the video in London, was this a planned decision or spur of the moment?
It was planned, but also a spur of the moment decision. I knew I was coming over for BBC Introducing Live, so I sent a list of things to the guys at Music Gateway of what else I could get done while I was over in London and shooting a music video was one of the things we could get done. It turned out so much better than anything I could’ve hoped for!
With the new single release, we obviously want to know when we can hear more from your second album?
Very soon! I will be releasing several singles and a few collaborations this year which I can’t wait to share with you guys! The songs just keep getting better!
Where’s next? Can we expect to see you back in the UK soon?
Yeah for sure! Got a fair bit going on in Australia at the moment but should hopefully be back over in the UK later this year!
