This Valentine’s we spent the evening with pop punkers Bowling For Soup, on their Together Again, You’re Welcome UK tour at the O2 Academy Brixton, with support from Simple Plan and Not Ur Girlfrenz.

This sold out Brixton show, as lead singer Jaret Reddick told us, was the third time Bowling For Soup had played at the legendary London venue, but the first time selling it out, and oh what a packed out venue it was that night.

Opening up the show were all-girl, Texan rock trio Not Ur Girlfrenz. Produced by Jaret Reddick himself. It quickly became evident that the girls, aged only 13-14, belong up on stage. With an opening and stage set up giving a nod to the 90s cartoon The Powerpuff Girls, Liv Haynes, guitar and lead vocals, Gigi Haynes, bass, Maren Alford, drums are a breath of fresh air for the younger pop rock generation. Their set included covers of My Chemical Romance’sI’m Not OK‘ and Spice Girls, ‘Wannabe’.

Next up were Canadian rockers Simple Plan who had a lot of fans in the room tonight. Energy was kept high throughout their set, which included classics such as ‘Welcome To My Life‘, ‘Jump’, ‘Addicted’ and ‘Shut Up’.

With the crowd well and truly warmed up it was time for Bowling For Soup – the band who never seem to stop touring ( and we hope they continue to do so for a long time). Opening on ‘Suckerpunch’, followed by ‘High School Never Ends’ fans were also treated to classics that included ‘Girl All The Band Guy Wants’, ‘Almost’, ‘Punk Rock 101‘, we were even witness to an on-stage Valentine’s proposal – congrats to the lucky couple!

While Bowling For Soup are known for their jokes and humour, Jaret took a moment to get serious and address his experience of depression, telling the crowd to always remember that “the world is a great place because you’re here.”

The band finished the night with an encore of ‘1985’ and ‘A Really Cool Dance Song’ ending yet another fun-filled Bowling For Soup experience.
